DiSCwise - Developing, Demonstrating and Deploying a Reference Architecture for Interoperability in the Transport and Logistics Sector

The DiSCWISE project (2010-2011) aims to harmonise business processes and data exchange architectures and standards, at European or international level, within the transport and logistics sectors, to facilitate the participation of SMEs in global digital supply chains. The expected benefits from the extended exploitation of ICT and e-Business model actions for companies in these sectors are streamlined business processes that will, in turn, result in:

  1. reduced transportation time and costs;
  2. improved vehicle utilisation – and associated profitability;
  3. enhanced communication with trading partners;
  4. reduced Carbon Footprint;
  5. reduced traffic congestions. More specifically, the project’s objective is to complete a reference architecture for interoperability, building on existing standardisation achievements and joining them in a seamless architecture at European or international level. Its ultimate objective is to create a favourable environment that would stimulate and enable the uptake of ICT and eBusiness technologies, notably by SMEs, in those two highly SME-intensive sectors in Europe.
